In those eyes

Look into my eyes; glare at them, swim a little deeper, you may find a smile brimming, a dream choking, a rage burning, a hope fluttering. You know what I see? I see a moment of ecstasy, just a single moment. I don’t even know if it will last for the next few minutes. These were the words that somebody’ eyes said to me as I flipped through them with sheer animosity.

Yesterday at Karol Bagh, which is one of the most populated markets of Delhi, there was this huge ocean of people gathered for some Pooja. As I passed through these widest roads, the traffic stood still. Policemen managing the traffic were frustrated but patient. I saw there, urchins dancing on streets, bigger ones boozing, dancing in tempos. As I passed through one, my eyes met his. He stared at me. He had dreamy eyes which were at peak of felicity. He kept on staring at me. Maybe he was reading hatred in my eyes; maybe he was just looking at my neck tie. Even I stared at his. I could see craters under his eyes, million shattered dreams, years of agony and bondage. I could see the dreams of a child in the trance eyes of a man. And I did discover another thing, a profound euphoria for the moment he stood there.
